Today was a pretty busy Sunday. We attended the early service at church, then hit up a restaurant in Tallahassee we hadn’t eaten at yet for brunch. I’m not naming the restaurant because I feel like we experienced an unusual situation. But, it took OVER an hour to receive our food (an omelette for me and a breakfast burrito for Craig). It wasn’t ridiculously packed and we couldn’t figure out why took that long to get our food. As you can imagine, our aggravation increased as the time passed. I kept thinking about all the things I wanted to get done and how our day was being ‘wasted’. However, I have to give the restaurant props for offering free coffees due to the long wait.
Later, I went to Old Navy to pick up some winter clothes since they are having an amazing sale leading up to Black Friday. As I got in line to check out, so did the rest of the customers in the store. However, they all got in the check out line before me. I’d already spent longer than I intended to in the store and I was frustrated with how long it took to check out.
It was late, so I stopped to pick up some fast food for dinner (I’ve given up on my diet until after Thanksgiving lol). After ordering, it took 30 MINUTES to get the food. As I was standing there, thinking about how much of my day I had spent just waiting, becoming impatient and aggravated that this kept happening to me…God placed a question in my heart.
How much of our own time do we waste away without a second thought, but get so frustrated when others ‘waste’ our time? How much of my time do I spend doing things of no value, essentially wasting God’s time because I should be living each moment for Him?
This really made me think about the need to always be purposeful with my time. How sad it would be to miss opportunities, fail to do God’s will, or spend my last day on Earth doing things of no true value. As I begin this journey of sharing my faith and life with you all, I will also be making an effort to ensure that my daily life activities are done with purpose.
With social media, TV, and our modern fast-paced society, it can be hard to not become distracted or sucked in by all the ‘noise’. (I have to admit I’ve found myself watching video after video on Facebook a time or two). How do you ensure that you are not wasteful with your time? How do you live each day with purpose and keep your focus where it should be? Comment below and let me know so we can help each other stay accountable!
