It’s time for the first review of some makeup from my Boxycharm box! In case you haven’t picked up on it yet, I am LOVING my Total Beauty Aficionado box (still an extra 20% off right now!). I haven’t signed up for their subscription boxes yet, but I am very tempted.
For today’s post, I’ll focus on reviewing one of the great eyeshadow palettes I received, one of the liquid lipsticks and the eyeshadow primer base. Plus, I wanted share some tips about the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel polish pictured below.
I don’t claim to be a makeup expert and can’t quite live up to the many amazing Instagram beauty experts out there. However, I do love makeup and am always looking to learn new techniques. I tend to wear more natural looks, but am working on expanding my horizons a bit. So, thank you for joining me on my never ending makeup journey.
Luscious Angel Eyes Primer
I have never used an actual eyeshadow primer on my eyelids before, I usually just use some concealer. So, I was excited to try this and see if it made a difference. The first thing I noticed was that it only take a VERY small amount to fully cover the entire lid. It’s a thick cream, but doesn’t feel heavy on your eyelid at all. It did create a nice smooth matte base for my eyeshadow and helped to keep the shadow on all day. Looks like I have another product to add to my daily routine!
I was talking with a friend the other day about how I often try out a new (to me) makeup product, then realize I love it, and just end up with one more step to add to my morning makeup routine. (I recently discovered brow tint and I have no clue how I ever made it through life without this stuff!)
Pretty Vulgar Nightingale Smokey Eyeshadow Palette
This is the perfect palette for a smokey eye look, because you have options for a bronze or black smokey eye. To create my look, I used the nocturnal shade as a base across the whole lid and brow bone. I blended Hide & Seek into the crease and Swoop in the outer v and along the lower lash line. Then, I finished it off by blending Pillow Fight along my lid.
I like how the eyeshadow is pigmented and blends very well. You can tell that it is good quality because you don’t have to try very hard to get the shadow on the brush or have to use a lot of it for the color to show up. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick – Sanctuary
This is definitely my favorite of the two lipsticks I got. It is a long lasting liquid matte lipstick in a great color. This is the first liquid matte lipstick I have tried, but I think I’m in love! The color was highly pigmented, didn’t bleed, and lasted for a long time. Though I don’t have much to compare it to, it was able to last through eating breakfast and lunch. However, come dinner time, it had started to rub off in places.
I am definitely going to have to try a few more liquid matte lipsticks, but this one is a perfect introduction. I especially like how it didn’t dry out my lips too much and barely felt like I had any lipstick on.
Sally Hansen Gel Polish – Cabernet with Bae
Last night, I finally painted my nails! I know I told you guys on my Instagram stories that I was going to do that last Thursday, so they REALLY needed it by Saturday.
I think I am the one woman left who doesn’t regularly get my nails done professionally, but I just can’t bring myself to spend the money (I can be cheap sometimes you’ll learn). However, I’ve tried several different polishes at home and they don’t usually last more than a couple days.
The Sally Hansen Gel Polish (no UV light required) lasts longer, but always took SO long to dry (like more than an hour) that I would end up smearing, denting, or messing up my nails in some other way before they were dry.
However, I realized last night that this problem was my own fault. Usually, I would apply the first coat of color and wait until it was basically dry. Then I’d apply the second coat, wait until that was basically dry, and apply the top coat. Turns out, I should have been waiting until each coat was COMPLETELY dry before moving on. Ok, I realize I am probably the only person who didn’t know this, but just in case there’s one other person out there like me, this will totally change your nail polish game.
Anyways, I don’t know exactly how long it took for each coat to dry, because I would do a coat and then spend some time working on my computer. I probably waited around 20 minutes between each coat. It probably doesn’t actually need to be that long, but I wanted to be extra sure it was dry. I also love this color. It looks almost black, but has a distinct dark purple color to it when the light shines on it.
Let me know in the comments below if you have ever tried this polish and had success with it.
